San Daniele ham is made in the historical region of Friuli and has an unusual shape with a distinctive "drumstick" foot. A connoisseur's prosciutto, San Daniele is made to stringent standards of production, and only from Italian heavyweight swine reared in northern and central Italy. Made from selected branded hams and matured for at least 14 months, San Daniele P.D.O. is soft to the touch, pinkish red in colour, with an intense, pleasant fragrance and an exceptionally sweet and delicate flavour. Best enjoyed in translucently-thin slices, with a young white wine.
